Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

You are required to submit the claim form. Verbal notification or other written means is not acceptable.

You should notify us immediately after an accident. If you do not notify us within 14 days the delay in making the claim may prejudice your rights under your motor policy.

In most cases, the No Claims Discount (for Private Vehicle only) follows this table. However, in certain cases your claim could fall under the NCD Protector feature of our policy if that feature is included in your policy. Please check your policy to see if NCD protector applies to your policy.

Original NCD           NCD after claim

50%                         20%

40% or less             0%

Yes. We must authorize all repair work.

Liberty’s goal is to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. Normally, your repair work will commence within 7-14 working days after you have submitted your claim, subject to completeness of required documents and quantification of surveyor.

A person who suffers loss in an incident can recover from his insurance policy only up to the extent of the loss he has suffered. In other words, an insured cannot benefit from a loss. If an old item is replaced by a new one, depreciation is applied to cover the difference in value between an old item and a new item.

The court of law determines who the negligent party is. Therefore, to protect your interests, and whether or not you are the negligent party, you should note the following items at the accident scene:

  • The third party(s) vehicle registration number(s)
  • Name of the third party(s) driver(s) and/or passenger(s)
  • Contact number of the third party driver(s)
  • Insurer of the third party(s) vehicle (if possible)
  • Gather the contact information of witnesses
  • Take pictures of the accident from all angles

After police investigation, you should forward prosecution/court result and copy of receipts of your losses for recovery.

No. While Liberty will be happy to advise you on how to proceed, we have no legal interest in your vehicle (because you have a third party only policy). Therefore, it is your responsibility to pursue recovery action against the third party.

In cases where a third party has liability for the accident, your insurance company can elect to recover claims costs and damages (including your excess) from the third party. How long this process takes depends on the time spent by the police on investigation, length of court trial and third party recovery negotiations. While every case differs, cases may take 6 months to 2 years to resolve.

If the accident does not involve third party bodily injury, you are allowed to withdraw your claim at any time after signing the Letter of Withdrawal.
